Non-destructive Testing
(NDT) is the examination of an object with technology that does not affect the
object's future usefulness. The term NDT includes many methods
that can detect internal or external imperfections (i.e. crack and flaws). This
section includes Visible and Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection materials for surface
inspection and Magnetic Particle Inspection equipment and materials for inspection
of surface and subsurface imperfections.

Instruction pictures read left

- Preclean inspection area. Spray on cleaner. Wipe off with cloth.
- Apply Penetrant. Allow short penetration period.
- Spray cleaner on wiping cloth and wipe surface clean.
- Spray on a thin, uniform film of developer.
- Inspect. Defects will show as bright red lines in white developer background.

- Preclean inspection area. Spray on cleaner. Wipe off with cloth.
- Apply penetrant. Allow short penetration period.
- Spray cleaner on wiping cloth and wipe surface clean.
- Apply a thin film of developer. Allow short developing period.
- Inspect under black light. Cracks and lack of bond will show as glowing lines,
porosity will show as spots.

Magnetic Particle Inspection

- Preclean inspection area. Spray on cleaner. Wipe off with cloth.
- Place yoke on test piece perpendicular to direction of suspected cracks.
- Energize yoke.
- Apply magnetic powder or prepared bath while yoke is energized.
- Indications will form immediately.
